Mode Designs has released a new trailer, “Prologue – The Next Chapter of Mode Keyboards”.
The video is a teaser and does not contain a lot of information, but the cut around 47 seconds clearly shows the “ten-keyed” layout.
Furthermore, the special key group to the left of the numeric keypad (navigation system) appears to have been compressed into a single row, so it is likely that this is the so-called 98% / 1800 series (an array with packed width while retaining full-size practicality).
Up to now, Mode Designs has released keyboards up to 80% TKL, no matter how large they are.
If it is a keyboard with a numeric keypad, it will be their first attempt, and it will be interesting to see what kind of product it will be.

Silhouette at 47 seconds shows: compressed navigation column + numeric keypad integration
Take a look at the cut around 47 seconds into the teaser video.

A numeric keypad can be found on the right side block.
A distinctive feature is the vertical row of special keys above the right arrow key.
It is expected that the layout will probably be 98%.

The closest layout would be the Keychron Q5 Pro.
After all, there are often cases where a numeric keypad is needed for office work, but the problem is that it is long enough to the right.
However, the so-called 96% layout, which was generally developed to avoid this, tends to sacrifice special keys.

However, with a 98% layout, the numeric keypad can be used while leaving the special keys in place.
If Mode is going full steam ahead into this area, I can understand it honestly as an expansion of the line.

What Mode’s “next chapter” means
Mode is a brand that has always emphasized “texture, sound, and structure” in its compact line.
If a model with an integrated numeric keypad is added, not only will the number of keys simply increase, but the following design difficulties are expected to rise to a higher level.
- Case Structure
- acoustical design
- Unified keystroke feel
The title of the teaser is “The Next Chapter,” which seems to imply that the project will challenge a new stage, building on the previous designs.
Points to focus on now
We cannot confirm this at the teaser stage, but this is what we would like to check in the follow-up report.
- Determine the sequence: is it 98% (1800 series) or is it a more unique filling?
- Overall case design: Does it have a Mode-like refined beauty?
- Mounting method and internal configuration: Teaser shows the contents of the “new approach
- Sales format and delivery time: will the price rise too much with size?
summary

From the cut around the 47-second mark, it appears that the “compressed layout (98%/1800 series)” with integrated numeric keypad will be the main feature of this “Prologue”.
We are very much looking forward to seeing how Mode’s design philosophy will be applied to this size and how the “typing experience,” which they have been emphasizing, will turn out.
