On June 25, 2024, Keychron’s Japanese distributor, Kopec Japan, updated its official X website to announce the release of a new full set of Double Shot OSA keycaps for Keychron JIS layouts and other applications.
The full set (145 keys) is priced at 6,490 yen (tax included) and is available in Gray and Light Blue and Ice Mountain w colors.
Purchases can only be made through the official online store.
Long-awaited keycaps for all JIS layout mechanical keyboard fans
Perhaps Keychron’s intention is to market the product as a replacement for older models with existing ABS keycaps.
Up to now, keycaps for Keychron keyboards with JIS layout have been made of ABS single-shot.
ABS is not necessarily bad, but it is true that the original US layout was a little inferior to the US layout, which uses double-shot PBT keycaps, because it lacked abrasion resistance, prints were easily erased, and it did not produce the “thumping” sound that has become the mainstream in recent years. It is true that the original US layout was slightly inferior to the US layout.
However, the reason why keycap changes have not been popular for these Keychro JIS layout mechanical keyboards in the past is simply because there was no choice of replacement keycaps for the JIS layout.
Until then, the only options were ” Acid Caps ” and ” FILCO ” created by Mr. Salicylic Acid.
Fans of JIS-layout mechanical keyboards will rejoice now that Keychron has released replacement keycaps.
