It was announced at Tenkey Vol. 7 in November 2024 that the company was developing a successor to the Libertouch membrane keyboard, which it called the “Revival L.”

About four months have passed since then, and FCL Components, Inc. was exhibiting at Kequet 2025 to report new progress.
Continuing from the previous article, this article covers the development status of the successor model to Libertouch.

What is a rebel touch in the first place?

Libertouch is a keyboard sold by FUJITSU COMPONENT LIMITED, the predecessor of FCL COMPONENT LIMITED.
The main features of Libertouch are that it uses a membrane input method, but with deeper keystrokes (approximately 3.8 mm) and a unique mechanism with individual rubbers and springs on all keys.
Another feature may be that the threshold for input judgment (actuation point) is set relatively shallow, so that input can be made without having to press a key all the way down.

Unlike ordinary membrane keyboards, the coil spring is installed under the rubber dome, resulting in a “premium” keystroke feel with a tactile sensation, as both “rubber” and “coil” are exquisitely intertwined with each other.
It was temporarily discontinued, but was resold in 2018.
However, the resale model will be discontinued in 2021, and no successor model has been available since then.
Exhibits are in premium specs.
The keyboard was a simple tray-mounted keyboard, but this sample product had very high-spirited specifications.

The keycaps are made of high-quality PBT material, the body is a machined aluminum housing, and the layout has been changed to 65% with arrow keys.

The attention to detail in modeling was impressive, such as placing an acrylic plate over the logo engraved on the board in the gold-decorated aluminum case to accommodate the LEDs.

The sample product is laser-engraved on the PBT keycap, which is a soft gray legend that will not be too obtrusive to the eye when typing.

Membrane unit evolved to be CherryMX compatible
We were surprised at the high degree of perfection of the keyboard, but what surprised us even more was the “membrane key switch.
The key unit has been changed to a Cherry MX compatible footprint.

According to Mr. Nishino, the company’s general manager, the specifications are “about 2mm taller” than general CherryMX standard mechanical key switches.

The previous proprietary keyswitches were very tall, and even though they had CherrMX-compatible cross stems, the keyswitches were sticking out far from the skirt when Cherry profile keycaps were installed.
However, if it is only 2 mm higher, the exposure of the lower part of the keyswitch would not be that much of a concern.

Will there be a revolution in the key switch scene with membrane units as well as Revell Touch alone?

The above is a follow-up report on Libertouch.
If development continues and CherryMX-compatible membrane units as well as Revell Touch become commercially available, there is a possibility that keyboards on the market in general can be “Revell Touch-ized.
The rubber dome and coil spring keys have an addictive feel to them.
This makes me even more excited for the follow-up report.

If you are a Libertouch fan of yesteryear and can communicate this attraction, let’s communicate this attraction together!
