The Cerakey Matte series was suddenly announced in March 2025.
Since then, the name of the existing series has been changed to “Glossy” and the product lineup has been reorganized as follows.
Cerakey Lineup
- Glossy Ceramic
- Matte Ceramic
- Crazed Ceramic
At first glance, there appears to be little difference between the Matte and Glossy series on the website.
However, when I actually saw the actual product, it was completely different.
This article looks at the differences between the traditional glossy Cerakey and the newer non-glossy Cerakey.

Difference between Cerakey Glossy White and Matte White
Simply put, the difference is “shiny or not shiny,” but it is actually difficult to tell without seeing the actual product.
So I took comparison photos from various angles.

Let it be conveyed!
Let’s start with the definitive photo.
Did you guys figure out which one is matte and which one is glossy?

The correct answer is ….
Left: Matte Right: Glossy.
Let’s look again.

The right side reflects light, whereas the left side has no reflection at all.
It is really “matte”.
This matte ceramic keycap has a good grip and is very comfortable to the touch, but there is one point that needs to be mentioned.
That is, “normal keycap pullers cannot be used.
Strictly speaking, using a metal keycap puller will leave black marks on the surface.

To remove the keycap, use the plastic keycap puller that comes with it.

Let’s take a look at how it is attached to the actual keyboard.
The keyboard used is Gravity36.

Let’s start with the glossy.
As you can see, the light is reflected and shines against the light source applied from the right.

On the other hand, this is matte.
You can see that the light source shone from the right is only evenly brightened without reflection.
(It might be a little confusing.)

Let’s look at it from a different angle.
This is a glossy type.

Next is the matte type.
This may be seen in a more easily recognizable matte form, as there is very little light reflection.

This was taken closer to the light source.
Let’s start with the glossy.

Then the mat.
There is no light reflection at all.

Here is what they look like side by side.

Glossy from another angle.

Mat.

Summary|If you didn’t like Glossy’s smoothness, please try Matte.

These are just a few examples of Cerakey’s new “matte series” that we have reported on.
Cerakey is uniquely appealing because of the pleasantly heavy typing feel and cool touch that comes from the ceramic material.
However, the inevitable nature of “ceramic” had a major disadvantage: its shiny surface made it slippery.
The Mat Series solves this problem.
Except for the fact that metal keycap pullers cannot be used, the Mat Series may be used without problems by those who have given up on Cerakey because of its “slippery” nature.
