On November 6, 2026, Keychron introduced the global launch of Orca echo on its official X account.
The official pre-launch page is accepting sign-ups for notifications ahead of the Kickstarter launch, as well as reservations for a $5 VIP spot.
At this stage, the $5 is not a preorder for the keyboard itself; it is a deposit to secure perks when the campaign launches.

And take a closer look.
There’s a slight difference from the Japanese version.
That’s right: the key legends are different (more on this below).

Orders for the Keyboard Open After Kickstarter Launches
The VIP reservation product page states that the $5 is nonrefundable and does not constitute an advance purchase of the keyboard.
In other words, this time you’re paying $5 for the right to buy at the VIP price.
Orders will be placed after the Kickstarter campaign officially launches.
Typically, with this kind of sales model, VIP ticket holders are sent a dedicated purchase link, which they can use to buy at the VIP price.
| Item | Official Details |
|---|---|
| Launch notification | Email address registration |
| VIP spot reservation | $5 nonrefundable deposit |
| VIP price | Up to $31 off when the campaign launches |
| Purchase method | Dedicated VIP link sent at launch |
| Gift | A 2-in-1 switch and keycap puller included with an Orca echo order |
To verify VIP perks, the email address used for the Kickstarter order must match the one used for the VIP reservation.
A G6 HE giveaway is also mentioned, but paying the VIP deposit alone does not qualify you to enter. You must order Orca echo on Kickstarter and complete payment.
We’ll have to wait for further updates on the keyboard’s final retail price, the specific Kickstarter launch date and time, and shipping terms.

US Version Changes the Key Layout and Layers
One detail worth noting is that the key layout differs from the Japanese crowdfunding version.
For the US version, Keychron lists symbol positions that match the ANSI layout, a numpad-style number layer, Delete in the top-right, two layers accessed with Fn1/Fn2, and M1–M4 custom keys.
KawamuraThe image on the left shows the ANSI version just revealed.
The key legends have changed considerably.
It uses a conventional 40% layout with Backspace in the top-right, and personally, this keymap looks more familiar to me.

Differences in Key Legends
| Comparison | ANSI Layout Ver. | Nakahashi Layout Ver. |
|---|---|---|
| Fn legends | Fn1 and Fn2 on separate keys on the left side | Fn1/Fn2 shown together on one key on the left side |
| Macro key legends | M1–M4 on the right side | M1–M3 on the right side |
| Top-right key in the right-hand section | Left-pointing arrow legend | Symbol legends such as “=” and “~” |
| Number and symbol sublegends | Layout change | Legends follow the Japanese layer configuration |

KawamuraI own many Japanese custom keyboards and commercially available 40% keyboards from overseas, but almost all of them use ANSI-based layouts.
The proposed legends also make this layout seem more mainstream: for example, the symbol layer is represented on the number row, and Backspace is placed in the upper-right corner.
This Does Not Mean Japanese Orders Are Changing
Orca echo is a split keyboard with a 19 mm trackball under the right thumb, a wheel under the left thumb, and scroll pads on both sides.
Greenkeys has covered the early sales and monitor recruitment in Japan. This overseas pre-launch, however, should be treated as a separate sales initiative.
The announcement of the U.S.-market layout does not say that the layout or order details for early buyers in Japan will change.
For shipping information in Japan, continue to check for updates from the domestic project.
A Product Idea Born in Japan Goes Global
Given the success of the crowdfunding campaign in Japan, it is more natural to view this Orca echo release as Keychron itself taking the device global.
The change to the key legends feels more like “internationalization” than localization for the global market.
It will be worth watching how a product purchased by as many as 26,000 people in Japan is received around the world.
