On January 7, 2025, Elecom Corporation announced in a press release the IST PRO, a ball-bearing trackball mouse.

The product is scheduled to go on sale in mid-January 2025 at an actual retail price of 24,980 yen including tax.

Instead of artificial ruby or zirconia, the trackball’s support unit is equipped with Minebea-Mitsumi’s ultra-precision high-performance ball bearings, a key feature of the IST series, to reduce frictional resistance and achieve a “floating in the air” feel.

Of course, it can also be converted to populated ruby units.

Triple mode is supported, and the battery can be selected between rechargeable and dry cell batteries, and replacement batteries appear to be sold separately.

Of course, the wired connection port is Type-C.

The sensitivity switch is located on the top surface and has three levels: Low/Mid/High, with the luxury of being able to change the setting from 100 to 12,000 dpi in 100 dpi increments using dedicated software.

The problem of not being able to switch off the trackball mouse without turning it over, which is a common problem with trackball mice, has also been resolved.

Many people were disappointed that Logitech’s flagship model MX ERGO S, which was updated last August, essentially had only a minor change in terminals from Micro-B to Type-C.

Although the price is expensive, Elecom has challenged the MX ERGO S to a head-to-head competition as an “official competitor” that is expected to surpass the MX ERGO S in terms of customization performance and feel of control.
