The Good Design Award’s introduction to the product explains that it is based on the Piantor layout and was designed to be portable for use away from home, such as at work or while traveling.

beekeeb says its initial goal was to create a comfortable, portable wireless split keyboard with an integrated trackpad.

One defining feature of Toucan is how it combines a split typing setup and pointing controls in a compact, portable form, using a 17 mm key pitch.

The award went to Toucan. On its official blog, beekeeb also introduces its successor, Toucan2, which carries on the design and features a glass trackpad, among other additions.

Product Updates Continue After Changes to Beekeeb’s Japan Operations

Greenkeys previously reported the dissolution of Kurumi LLC, which operated beekeeb.jp.

beekeeb later explained on its official blog that it would gradually wind down the Japanese entity’s operations while continuing sales and services for Japan.

This time, the official Japanese-language account shared news of the award and the domestic exhibition.

However, there has been no announcement that this update signals a resumption of the Japanese entity’s business. It remains to be seen how beekeeb will handle its sales operations and brand activities going forward.
