On October 17, 2023, HHKB, the keyboard brand of PFU Corporation, updated its official X (formerly Twitter) to announce the launch of a new product.
The new product is scheduled to be announced on October 25, Japan time, but unfortunately, the official HHKB X in Japan has not announced even the time.
However, the official X account of HHKB US announced that the announcement will be made on October 24 at 8:00 AM Pacific Time (PST).
Considering daylight saving time, there will probably be some kind of announcement on the local official X at midnight Japan time on October 25.
If daylight savings time is not taken into account, the announcement will be made at 1:00 a.m. Japan time on October 25!
The actual device will probably be presented during a meetup event to be held at 7:00 p.m. on the same day.
A closer look at the hashtag shows “AllinOne,” and it is unclear if this is a stab at the product to be announced.
When I hear the term “all-in-one,” I imagine the “keyboards with integrated pointing devices” that have recently become popular in the home-built keyboard community.
I’d be shocked if that were really the case.
Analysis of the image shows that the base of the font still follows HHKB, and that the center of the letters, which would normally be placed in the center, is unnaturally left-leaning, suggesting that the intention was to place “. is unnaturally centered to the left, which is usually placed in the center.
In other words, it is the location of the track points.
Also, given that the lower area of the keyboard is larger than that of a regular HHKB, it is not surprising that there is a click button here.
And the light in the upper right could be a sidelight like NuPhy.
Let’s look forward to seeing what new products will be released.
