On June 20, 2023, Kopec Japan, Keychron’s distributor in Japan, announced the release of the Keychron K4 Pro.
The Keychron K4 Pro is a 96% layout mechanical keyboard that became available on January 10, 2023.
The four major differences from the previously released K4 are as follows
- QMK/VIA support allows keymap changes.
- Sound-absorbing foam and silicone bottom pad are built in for quieter keystrokes than the regular Keychron K4
- Key switches are Keychron K Pro.
- Keycaps feature double-shot PBT OSA profile
In particular, the ability to change keymaps is a major change.
As for the K4 Pro, it has a numeric keypad on the right side, which has the potential to function as a macro pad in combination with the layer keys.
In addition to that, the keycaps are quieter and the double-shot PBT keycaps are used, so you can expect to feel the keystrokes to be struck with a cotation.
Since the product is sold through an authorized Japanese distributor, it is of course technically compliant and can be used for wireless connection in Japan.
Moreover, the JIS model (Japanese layout model) lineup is also available, which is a very good option for Japanese people.
However, the keycap of the JIS model is made of ABS material with laser engraving, a slight downgrade, so the US model is recommended for those who are concerned.
The price on the official sales site is 19,910 yen (including tax) for the white LED model and 21,890 yen (including tax) for the RGB backlight model.
