Nape pro mainview

Nape Pro is a small trackball device jointly developed by Keychron, a well-known name in the mechanical keyboard world, and the editorial department of Gizmodo Japan, a technology media company.

It has a 25mm trackball and 6 buttons + wheel, and the key feature is the ability to change the keymap and orientation from a dedicated web-based UI.

Pointing operations can be completed without moving the hand significantly from the home position by “just attaching” to the front or side of the keyboard.

The crowdfunding platform is CoSTORY, operated by Mediagen.

Support for the project was concentrated immediately after its launch, exceeding 100 million yen on November 21 and growing to reach the 200 million yen mark this time.

Trackball from keyboard culture, born from the homebrew project “Nape

Nape Pro originates from “Nape,” a home-built trackball device that has been personally developed by Gizmodo Japan editor, Koichiro Tsunafuji.

Starting with a device I made for myself, then distributing homebrew kits, and then collaborating with Keychron to create a commercial version of the “Nape Pro” is very “hot.”
The fact that this project has been commercialized along lines that have not been seen before is also unique to this project. The project is also unique in that it has been commercialized in a line that has not been seen before.

From Japan, the trackball superpower, to the world

As mentioned in the interview with Keychron, Japan is a “trackball powerhouse” with high demand for trackballs worldwide.

Limited desk space
・Popularity of compact keyboards
・Need to operate a mouse without a large swinging motion

With this background, we feel that the concept of a “trackball to accompany the keyboard” is a very logical project from Japan, and a theme that could reach the world.

It may be that the desk situation in Japan is a bit unique, but even so, I think trackball devices are quite easy to use.
I would really like to see the overseas group use it in some way, as it is possible that they “don’t want to eat it”.
I am sure there will be many international keyboard fans at next year’s Keykett, and I would love to see them at the booth.

summary

Greenkeys has been observing developments regarding Nape Pro since its first appearance at TGS 2025.

I believe that the success of this product was due not only to a good product concept, but also to a very good deployment method.

Nape Pro is more than just a “buzz gadget”,

We believe that this project is an “achievement” born from the intersection of players such as the following.

Breaking the 200 million yen mark is not the goal, but the first step to continue with the user community and future updates/derivative products that will start from this point.

As Keyboard Media, we will continue to follow and support this movement.

Congratulations to the Nape Pro team and to all the trackball & keyboard fans who supported them!

Support for purchase at the discounted price is available until December 14.
