Kawamura.

Thank you for your recent response to the IC on the keycap set!

We received responses from so many people, and they were very helpful in devising the kit.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who responded.

In this content, I would like to discuss the IC results and miscellaneous comments.

IC results for Keyreative KAT Operator

  • Survey period: March 28 – April 3, 2024
  • Number of responses: undisclosed
  • Survey method: Google Forms

Question 1: Are you interested in this keycap set?

ec42403e64b86faa8e9190c184357b88

We found that nearly 90% of the respondents were interested…but considering the nature of the survey, where only those who were interested would respond in the first place, we reflected that this question did not make much sense.

Question 2: Which keycap set do you prefer?

9372f602c23153e323a91f85da5d2c8f

This was quite a surprising result.

I had thought that WoB would be more popular, but operators are still popular.

However, I have found that the WoB is also quite popular, and depending on the sales of the operator’s auto kit, I will discuss the 40s Kit with the other party.

Question 3: What is your willingness to purchase this keycap set?

ae619eb6d8046dab6172f57fda3d6551

I have the impression that this question also misses a few options.

I thought it was predictable that few people would choose the “no need” option, since those who responded are the ones who are interested in the project…

A more nuanced option would have been better.

Question 4: What country or region do you live in?

fa3b8e3425b6dd3222f0cc02f0f8b552

This resulted in the majority of responses being Japan.

Since I only posted the survey in X, it is still possible that the responses were mainly from my followers.

I really wanted to spread the word using discord, etc., but I couldn’t quite figure out how to use discord, and that’s why I had to make the deadline.

Next time, we will consider to recruit on sites such as GeekHak.

In this case, it was as if the vendor was entrusted with the contents of the kit, so the project could be expanded globally.
I will continue to have vendors ship to me because of the limitations of my personal shipping capacity and the difficulty of reaching out of the country with a sales method where I have to order and stock the products myself…and I will continue to have vendors ship to me.
However, regarding this method, it may be rather hard to do it elsewhere, since the conditions are that you cannot create your own designs and have a system in place to attract customers.

Question 5: Opinions, etc.

We received a great deal of input on this issue.

Here is a bit of a brief introduction.

I would like to see a convex keycap included!

The most common comment was to make a 1u/1.5un keycap.

I knew this was a configuration that was not included in the Base Kit, and I was reminded that this is a problem unique to 40s.

Surely a 1u/1.5u space bar (or similar role) key is not a normal keyboard.

However, the reason why we could not include this in the first place was because the basic premise of this project was only to create a kit based on the Base Kit.

In the end, I am guessing that the manufacturer, seeing that the number of responses to the survey was quite high, decided that the product would sell well and responded to the request to create a convex, including cost-effectiveness.

Your opinions are definitely being delivered to the destination!

Hard to consider without knowing the price.

This is a natural opinion…however, due to the process we went through to determine the number of production based on the number of responses and heat of the survey, it will continue to be difficult to decide from the start.

However, we thought it would be a good idea to have a question about the price range in which they can be purchased, and we will consider this next time!

(Well, common sense says it can’t be too cheap. Rather, the ideal is something that “has value that makes you want to buy it even if it costs a little more”.

The print on the keycap does not match my sequence.

Keycap printing issue! This was to be expected.

To begin with, the reason why we chose the keycap set designed by biip this time is because the MOD key looks like a symbol.

If what is printed on the MOD keys is “frankly, you can take it any way you want”, you will not even encounter the event that it does not match your own sequence.

I believe the ideal is unmarked.

However, if we had made it unmarked, we would have lost the “landmark,” so we decided to at least… make a keycap with a “symbol” that could be read at any rate.

(However, we have heard that many Mac users could tell which key was which by looking at it, so this is a point of regret.)

Please consider printing Japanese sequences.

This is a bit difficult with this approach because the demand is only in Japan.

We are pushing hard in this area for another project and hope to announce it soon.

I would like to see more variations of the sublegend in the Q row.

This is also quite difficult, partly because it is based on the Base Kit.

Somehow, as for those who use 40%, it seems to me that they have a relatively operator-like sublegend feel, with the number and symbol keys on the back layer.

Kawamura top RKawamura

Since there is too much flexibility regarding this “what to assign to which key,” the ideal is still an unmarked kit.
If you want a legend, you can put a legend sticker on it and remove it when you get used to it.
Then there is the homing key.
I often use this one by GIBSON.

I would also like a carrying case or aluminum case.

Well… this is a bit out of my defensive area, so let’s wait for Mr. Kimura Shinshokuba or Mr. Arashi to design it for us. w

I need to be able to handle more than just Corne.

This was an opinion that was heard quite a bit.

I initially conceived of the idea as a kind of celebration of the Corne V4 festival, but since I was in the mood… I added a little more keycaps to accommodate keyboards with less than 40% keycaps based on 1u keycaps.

I think this will cover Altair and others in future releases.

And then there’s Planck, which is the default layout.

summary

So, the first project in GreenKeys history, “Let’s collaborate with makers and make something! We are very grateful to everyone who helped us make this first project a success.

I will continue to do my best to connect with you through the media and to give shape to your ideas.
