On June 27, 2024, PFU Corporation launched a crowdfunding campaign on the crowdfunding site “Makuake” to support the recovery from the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
What is surprising is the price of the keyboard + lacquered keycaps offered as a “return”.
The set of HHKB (Professional /Studio) and lacquered keycaps is priced at “1,320,000 yen”.
As of 6:00 a.m. on June 28, 2024, the Professional set is already sold out, and the Keycap Set and ESC Keycap, which started at the same time, are also sold out, leaving only the Studio set, which is still a surprise to us.
The project outline is as follows
Happy Hacking Keyboard (HHKB), designed and sold by PFU Corporation, headquartered in Kahoku City, Ishikawa Prefecture, has collaborated for the first time in 18 years in the “Re:japan Project” to support the recovery of “Daitetsu Yatsui Lacquer Ware Studio,” which is engaged in Wajima-nuri (Wajima lacquer painting) and was severely damaged by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake in 2024. Re:japan” means “reconstruction” of HHKB lacquerware models and “reprint/revival” of Wajima lacquerware (japan). The name “japan” is also used in the name of HHKB’s lacquer models.

This time, Wajima-nuri(*1) key tops made by “Ootetsu Yatsui Lacquer Ware Studio” will be provided as a return item.
This is the first model with lacquered keycaps in 18 years since the HHKB Professional HG JAPAN (2007), which used machined aluminum for the frame.
The price at the time was 525,000 yen (including tax), and it became a hot topic.
The fact that there are buyers despite the price of 1,320,000 yen, which is even higher than that this time, indirectly shows how popular the HHKB product is.
As for the support money raised
The entire amount, excluding the settlement fee, will be given to Ootsu Yai Lacquer Ware Studio to be used for the restoration of the studio.
He said.
By purchasing HHKB, you are also supporting the reconstruction efforts… This shows the passion that PFU Corporation has for the local community.
Only a set of HHKB Studio remains.
You should also consider supporting this project.
