Yes—this device isn’t just a device; you can see it as part of your fashion.
From a “work” tool to an everyday “life” tool.
It felt like a product that symbolizes where Elecom, now celebrating its 40th anniversary, is aiming next.

Turning the mouse from a work tool into a lifestyle product. A turning point in manufacturing seen in Elecom’s 40th anniversary model, “EGG MOUSE”Through the interview, I felt like I caught a glimpse of where Elecom is head...
The fourth milestone EGG MOUSE takes a form that symbolizes Elecom’s future
EGG MOUSE is an iconic product in Elecom’s mouse business, and it has been redesigned at each milestone.
This 40th anniversary model isn’t simply a reissue of a past classic.
The development theme this time is built around the concepts of “making the identity visible and tangible” and “unraveling Elecom’s origins, journey, and future.”
What came through strongly at this event was that the EGG MOUSE made for this 40-year milestone isn’t a product meant to sell nostalgia—it’s a product meant to express what Elecom, at its 40th anniversary, sees itself as a company that will create from here on.

From a “work tool” to a “product that adds color to everyday life”

The newly announced EGG MOUSE symbolizes the changes Elecom is making going forward.
As Elecom reaches its 40-year milestone, it’s looking to evolve beyond being a PC peripheral brand.
I felt this “EGG MOUSE” is the symbol of that turning point.
Elecom is a company strongly associated with being a PC peripheral manufacturer.
In recent years, however, it has expanded its product categories into areas beyond PC and smartphone peripherals, including beauty and grooming, cooking appliances, and healthcare.

Recently, it’s been especially noticeable how they’re moving into a wide range of fields—not only digital, but also healthcare, gaming, cooking appliances, beauty and grooming products, outdoor, pet appliances, solution proposals, and more.
At the core are two concepts: “unique ideas that create things the world hasn’t seen yet,” and “sincere manufacturing that stays close to people.”
By fusing those two, they aim—through the EGG MOUSE—to redefine input devices in a way that enriches people’s lives beyond “work,”
transforming the mouse as an office device into a “product that adds color to everyday life.”
That’s how they described it.
In other words, the EGG MOUSE seems to be one key point for expressing what Elecom is in its 40th year.
The concept: “Make every day picture-perfect.”

The new EGG MOUSE was developed under the concept “Make every day picture-perfect.”
Because it was designed as a project aiming for “a presence that adds color to everyday life—not just an input device—and a look you’ll always want to keep close by,” its vivid appearance really stands out.
Seeing the display at the venue, it came across as something designed not so much as “a mouse you use on a desk,” but as “a product that holds up even during the time you’re not using it.”

The rounded, egg-shaped silhouette is quite minimal for a mouse.
At just 40 g, it’s light, and its palm-sized form gives an endearing impression in its very presence.

In terms of specs, the mouse body is approx. 53 mm wide, 70 mm deep, and 46 mm high.
With the cover attached, it’s approx. 55 mm wide, 71 mm deep, and 47 mm high.
Weight (excluding the battery): approx. 40 g for the main unit, approx. 50 g with the Soft Shell attached.
In mouse sizing terms, you could call it an “XS” size.
It features a quiet design for all buttons and supports Bluetooth multi-pairing for up to three devices.
It also includes a function button with the Back function set by default.
Of course, you can also change button assignments, and use Elecom Mouse Assistant to apply your preferred control settings.

Everything besides the wheel is kept as unobtrusive as possible, greatly toning down that typical gadget-like, device feel.

As you can tell from its coloring and silhouette, the new EGG MOUSE can be seen not only as a mouse, but as “part of your interior” and “part of your fashion.”

I strongly felt this is a product that will be chosen in a different way than past mice.
Normally, when choosing a mouse, “how easy it is to grip” and “specs” tend to matter more than looks, and considering fashion elements is extremely rare.
In that it makes you think less about “how high-performance it is” and more about “how you’d want to place it in your everyday life,” it’s a product that brings the mouse closer to a lifestyle item rather than a PC peripheral.
10 colors across 5 models. A color design that wouldn’t feel out of place even in a high-end furniture store
This EGG MOUSE comes in five base body colors.
The lineup is as follows.

| Body Color | Included Soft Shell |
|---|---|
| black | Black, Navy |
| white | White, Greige |
| Teal Blue | Mint, Teal Blue |
| Coral Pink | Pink, Coral Pink |
| yellow | Gray, Yellow |
Since each set includes two cover colors, it effectively offers 10 looks across 5 models, and at launch there will be no separate cover sales.

They said they’ll consider selling the covers separately while watching how things go.
At the venue, not only were near-final color variations on display, but also in-development color chips and prototype samples.

Seeing them in person, you can tell the color creation is extremely careful.
Rather than simple vivid colors, they chose slightly more subdued tones—Mint, Teal Blue, Coral Pink, Navy, Greige, and more—that won’t stand out awkwardly when placed in an interior or fashion setting.
Saying it wouldn’t feel out of place lined up on the shelves of a high-end furniture store or lifestyle shop isn’t an exaggeration—it’s a very close way to describe the position this EGG MOUSE is aiming for.

EGG MOUSE, born supported by both design and engineering
It seems the EGG MOUSE started with shape design first.

After all, when you think of an egg shape, its defining feature is the beauty of its curves.
On the other hand, to make it as a product, you inevitably end up with “seams” due to the need to include various sensors, install click button switches, and house the battery.

The idea that emerged to solve this was the silicone cover.

By fitting the Soft Shell over it, they achieved a seamless appearance while keeping costs down.
On top of that, you also gain grip, stain resistance, protection for the body, and fashionability through swapping covers—all at once.
As a result, this cover isn’t just decoration; it seems fair to call it a core component that brings together the EGG MOUSE’s design, mass-producibility, price, and usability.
For future development, they said they’d like to consider expandability—such as an L size, an ergonomic shape, and additional colors—by changing the cover’s shape and design.

You can really feel how Elecom’s products are shaped by this kind of ingenuity and creative problem-solving in manufacturing.

It also seemed extremely challenging to pack mouse functionality into this shape.
They shared development stories backed by high-level engineering—like solving battery storage with a three-dimensional approach to fit the compact form, floating the wheel holder in midair, and devising the switch mechanism to fit everything onto a single board.

While being a highly design-forward product, the EGG MOUSE was developed with an emphasis on a price that many people can actually pick up and bring into their everyday lives.
You could feel the development team’s thorough commitment to making the product.
EGG MOUSE might be the product that brings the mouse back as a “lifestyle product”
That’s our report from covering Elecom’s new product launch event.
After all, with “gadgets” like these, it’s a genre where people tend to look at specs first—and where they’re often judged that way.
While it resonates with “people who love this stuff,” it’s also true that for those with less interest, it can easily be seen as a “hard-to-approach” genre.
Through this “EGG MOUSE,” I feel Elecom has created a product with the appeal to “break down the wall between gadget lovers and the general audience.”
Input devices like mice and keyboards are indispensable in modern life.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say they’ve become part of everyday life—so much so that there’s hardly a day you don’t touch them for work.
On the other hand, running “Greenkeys” has made me strongly feel just how surprisingly few people take an interest in those input devices.
Elecom’s EGG MOUSE is a device that draws interest first and foremost through its “looks,” rather than its specs.
There are probably more people interested in “fashion” than in gadgets.
In that context, the structure of “a gadget-focused brand incorporating fashion elements” is, in my view, an excellent strategy from a marketing standpoint as well, for getting more people to know their products broadly.
Not getting in the way of your living space when placed on a desk.
Looking like part of your fashion or belongings when you carry it around.
Making you want to leave it sitting there even when you’re not using it.
And making all of that work at an easy-to-pick-up price of ¥4,980 (tax included), not just for a small group of design lovers.
The interesting part of this Elecom product, the EGG MOUSE, is probably in those points.
Input devices tend to be talked about in terms of “work efficiency” and “functionality.”
The EGG MOUSE isn’t a mouse that competes on specs.
But it’s a mouse designed around whether it “fits into that person’s everyday life,” including when it’s on the desk, when you take it out of your bag, and even when you’re not using it.
Input devices are tools for making work more efficient, but they’re also everyday items you touch and see every day.
The EGG MOUSE, released at the 40th anniversary milestone, may be a product that re-embodies that obvious fact—once again—in the shape of an egg.
Elecom’s 40th year begins as it starts defining gadgets as “lifestyle products.”
