Features 16 keys and 3 rotary knobs in an aluminum enclosure

The Nano20 is a MacroPad featuring an aluminum top case and a polycarbonate bottom case.

The key switches are Cherry MX-compatible with a standard profile.

It features 16 keys arranged in a 4×4 grid and three rotary knobs lined up at the top.

The rotary knob supports not only rotation but also push operations, and VIA allows you to assign different functions to clockwise rotation, counterclockwise rotation, and the push action, respectively.

For example, it is expected to be used for the following operations.

Operations intended to be assigned to the rotary encoder knob

  • Moving Along the Timeline in Video Editing
  • Frame-by-Frame Movement
  • Changing the Brush Size
  • Increasing and Decreasing the Display Magnification
  • Volume Control
  • Shortcuts by Application
  • Controls for Gaming and Streaming

The top of the unit also features a TFT display.

With a macro pad that allows you to switch between multiple layers, being able to check the current status on the main unit itself should make it easier to use.

You can switch between 10 layers

Nano20 supports up to 10 programmable layers.

For example, you can assign tasks such as video editing, Excel, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, gaming, and live streaming to individual layers, and switch between them depending on your needs.

Although there are 16 physical keys, you can assign multiple commands to a single macro pad by using different layers.

If the current layer is displayed on the TFT LCD, it looks like it could be quite useful.

Supports VIA and onboard memory

You can configure the functions of keys and knobs using “VIA,” a key mapping tool that runs in your browser.

By importing a JSON file for Nano20, you can customize key remapping, macros, layers, lighting, and more.

The settings are saved to the device’s onboard memory. Therefore, once the settings are configured, there is no need to keep the dedicated software running in the background, and you can use the saved keymap even when connecting to a different computer.

It supports not only Windows, but also macOS and Linux.

Please note that the device supports only wired connections via USB Type-C and does not support Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz connections.

However, when using it in Japan, the fact that you don’t need to obtain technical compliance certification can actually be seen as an advantage, as it allows you to use the product with peace of mind.

Supports hot-swapping and a 1,000 Hz polling rate

The interior features PORON plate foam, an IXPE switch pad, a PET acoustic film, and PORON case foam.

Another notable feature is that, despite being a compact auxiliary input device, it employs a sound-absorbing design similar to that of standard custom keyboards.

The keycaps feature a Cherry-profile PBT double-shot design.

On the other hand, since there are no markings, it is not possible to clearly identify which parts are double shots.

XVX’s Product Line Goes Beyond Just Keycaps

While XVX is best known in Japan for its XVX profiles and low-profile keycaps, its official store also offers a wide selection of pre-built keyboards.

In addition to standard mechanical keyboards, the product lineup now includes magnetic-switch keyboards with an 8,000 Hz polling rate, gaming mice, and glass mouse pads.

The Nano20 is also a product that combines practical features such as VIA, onboard memory, and hot-swap capability while making the most of the keycaps and key switches developed by XVX.

In particular, since the three knobs can be configured individually, it seems well-suited for tasks that involve a lot of continuous operations, such as video and image editing.

Summary

That concludes our coverage of the XVX Nano20.

While the DOIO KB16 is a similar product, this one appears to be a step ahead in terms of layer visualization.

If you assign a toggle layer to the rotary encoder knob, you’ll have 10 layers of shortcuts at your disposal, which should allow you to customize their functions depending on the software.

I came across a product that looks interesting.
