On August 13, 2026, Chosfox unveiled the full design of its new mechanical keyboard “Init40” on its official X account.
Init40 is a 40% keyboard featuring low-profile switches.
Chosfox has previously released teasers showing parts of the case and side profiles, which Greenkeys has covered.
This post marks the first time the product name and overall keyboard design have been revealed.

About Chosfox’s new 40% keyboard “Init40”
Chosfox explains that they arrived at the 40% layout by asking the question: “How small can a keyboard get without losing the joy of using it?”
The company has previously released 40% keyboards developed in collaboration with Masro, including the “Geonix48,” “Geonix Rev.2,” and “Geonix Rev.2.5.”
Init40 appears to be a new model that builds on this 40% keyboard development experience while adopting a different layout from the existing Geonix series.
The size seems comparable to the Geonix, with the major differences being the row-staggered layout and the inclusion of a typing angle.

Adopts the same row-staggered layout as standard keyboards
The revealed Init40 features a row-staggered layout.
While the key count is extremely low, the left-side key layout follows the standard arrangement with alphabet keys positioned next to Esc/Tab/Shift.
On the other hand, you’ll notice that the right-side layout has significantly fewer keys compared to a standard keyboard.

This is an area where preferences will likely vary quite a bit.
Of course, with fewer keys, layer operation is fundamental.
However, unlike ortholinear layouts, the layout itself is familiar, so the switching cost is limited to “just the layer concept”—which can be seen as an advantage.
