Personally, this keyboard is right up my alley.
On September 23, 2026, JACKY DESIGN launched an “Interest Check” (hereinafter “IC”) for its new custom keyboard, the “RHINO60.”
The RHINO60 is a striking 60% keyboard featuring ample space around the key area.
Two models are available—WK and HHKB-style—and the keyboard features a dual-mount design that allows users to choose between top-mount and bottom-mount configurations. The price is $380, and a group buy is scheduled for November 2026.
The project is currently in the prototype development stage, and JACKY DESIGN is soliciting feedback on case colors and the product itself through IC Form.

A design with ample white space around the key area

Perhaps the most striking feature of the RHINO60 is the generous amount of space surrounding the main key cluster.
The generous proportions make the negative space itself feel like an intentional part of the design.
KawamuraTo me, that design looked less like a keyboard and more like a work of art.
As a 60% keyboard, it has a silhouette with quite a strong presence, and it looks great on your desk.

The external dimensions are 372 × 166 × 36 mm. The typing angle is 5 degrees.

While based on a 60% ANSI layout with a reduced number of keys, you can choose either the WK layout or the HHKB layout.
Although the weight has not been disclosed, given that it features a machined aluminum chassis and a brass bottom weight, we expect it to be close to 2 kg.
It’s fair to say that the RHINO60 is a product that prioritizes design and a strong presence on the desk over compactness.
JACKY, the designer, cites the following three elements as the design concept for the RHINO60.
JACKY’s Design Concept for RHINO60
- Modernism
- Retro Classic
- Brutalism
Unlike the soft curves that have been a hallmark of previous JACKY DESIGN products, the RHINO60 features straight lines and an angular case design.
It is said that, while keeping the ornamentation minimal, the bold lines and substantial proportions are intended to evoke the strength and solidity of a rhinoceros.

Two Layout Options: WK and HHKB-style
RHINO60 will offer a choice of two layouts: WK and HHKB-style.

WK uses a standard 60% layout.
The HHKB-style version features a key layout and case design reminiscent of the HHKB series.
Space has been left at the top on both sides to avoid placing keys there, emphasizing the step between the key area and the case that surrounds it.
Supports Both Top Mount and Bottom Mount
The RHINO60 features a dual-mount design that supports both top-mount and bottom-mount configurations.

A top mount is a common mounting method used to secure the plate to the top case.

On the other hand, the bottom-mount design introduced by JACKY DESIGN utilizes an internal structure that includes a mid-frame positioned between the PCB and the bottom case.
The mid-frame features horizontal ribs that also serve as part of the interior design when the case is opened.
Since you can try out different mounting methods on a single keyboard, you’ll likely enjoy experiencing how the typing feel and sound vary depending on how you assemble it.
Features a brass weight with a rhino engraved on the back
The bottom case comes standard with a brass back weight engraved with a rhinoceros design.

Combined with the angular, substantial case, the design allows you to sense the RHINO60’s product theme even from the back.
In addition, a 0.9-degree curve has been added to the front edge of the case to slightly soften its angular appearance.

Although the overall design is linear, a distinctive feature is that the front section is not a perfect straight line but incorporates a very gentle curve.
The case color will be determined based on the IC results.

JACKY DESIGN plans to determine the final case colors based on feedback collected during the IC.
In the online form, you can provide your answers regarding your interest in the product and your preferred color.
Therefore, the colors shown in the currently released renderings may not necessarily be the same as those in the Group Buy lineup.
KawamuraIf you have a preferred color or layout, it’s a good idea to share your feedback during the IC phase.
Jacky design currently building a prototype.
As of October 9, 2026, JACKY DESIGN states that it is building a prototype of the RHINO60.
Geekhack has received feedback expressing concerns about the shape of the front of the case and potential interference with the wrist, and JACKY DESIGN responded that it would share its impressions of actual use after testing a prototype.

Most of the images currently available are renderings.
I’d like to see photos of the prototype and hear some hands-on impressions, particularly regarding how the generous case margins and front-edge geometry affect typing posture.
Summary

The RHINO60 is currently in the Interest Check stage, with a group buy planned for November 2026.
Since feedback collected during the IC may influence the final color options and other details, this is an important stage for anyone interested in the project.
If you have a preferred color or layout, now is a good time to share your feedback.
This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the HHKB. Over the years, its distinctive layout has gained a worldwide following and inspired numerous HHKB-style custom keyboards.

Among them, the RHINO60 stands out to me for its distinctive proportions and strong design identity.
I’m looking forward to seeing how the final production version turns out.
