About Lofree Dot Foundation
Lofree Dot is Lofree’s flagship mechanical keyboard, released in 2016.
The distinctive typewriter-like circular keycap was a big hit around the world.
Seven years have passed since that big hit, and the requirements for mechanical keyboards have changed little by little, and in addition to appearance, there are now demands for keystroke feel and overall keyboard texture.
Dot Foundation was released to meet such needs.
Let us now look at the features of the Dot Foundation.

A major feature of the Dot Foundation can be said to be its ingenious keycap.
The usual method of keycaps is the double-shot method, in which a single color is used, but Foundation’s keycaps have a beautiful gradation as shown here.
In terms of color, the shape of the keycaps is such that the transparency increases as you move toward the key tops, giving each keycap a beautiful appearance that makes you feel as if it were a jewel.
The shape of the key tops is also very unique, with a uniform DSA profile-like design across all rows and a spherical design with a dent in the center.
In addition, all keys are rounded, making it very easy to type, despite its appearance.
contents
Contents include the main unit, various documents such as instruction manual and acceptance certificate, USB cable, and a brush for dusting.
As for the brushes, they have a lovely look, just like cosmetics.
The USB cables are also in the same color as the main unit, giving a sense of unity to the desk.
Lofree Dot Foudation in real images
From here, let’s take a look at Dot Foundation with actual images.
The outer box is a light pink color with a translucent band across the center.
When the band is removed, the appearance of the Foundation is printed.
It is already fashionable just by looking at this.
When the box is opened, the main unit can be seen wrapped in translucent wrapping paper.
After all, it is this “sense of scale” that is very important when talking about Foundations.
The attention paid not only to the keyboard itself but also to the exterior of the product can be described as a very high quality product.
The body is a translucent plastic body with a space at the top that appears to house the battery.
The Lofree logo is located in the center of the bottom of the unit, with four pink rubber feet.
Tilt angle is standard at approximately 6.5 degrees.
On the right side of the back of the unit, from right to left, there is a USB Type-C slot, a slider for switching between Windows/Android and Mac/iOS, a wireless and wired switch that also serves as a power switch, and a USB dongle for wireless connection using 2.4GHz.
The left Shift key is next to the left Shift key and the right Enter key is next to the right Enter key, both of which are uniquely decorated.
As for the keycaps, the alpha key is mainly translucent, and the pink saturation of the base color is darker from the function keys to the space bar.
As for the MOD keys, they are a single color with no sense of skew, and you can see that they are very crisply configured.
Particularly with regard to the alpha key, the crosshair stem portion and the outer contour appeared to be made separately.
We also feel a very strong commitment to the unified color of the keyswitches and keycaps.
The keyswitch is a custom Gateron Baby Raccoon switch, which has a slightly lighter pressing pressure than the regular BBR, and the stem and base are customized in a light pink color to match the Foundation.
Lofree Dot Foudation is a noteworthy point of recommendation.
The following three points of interest are recommended by Foundation.
- Very beautiful to look at.
- Comfortable typing sound with strong ASMR elements
- Unique keycap shape makes typing easy
Very beautiful to look at.
Perhaps the best thing about Foundation is its beautiful exterior.
Based on the pink theme color, the transparent keycap and body are very eye-catching.
The gradation of the base color of the alpha keys and the uniform color of the key switches are indicative of the high quality of the product.
Comfortable typing sound with strong ASMR elements
Foundation is not just about looks.
Please pay attention to its typing sound.
The slightly muted, angular, and very comfortable keystroke sound makes you want to type all the time.
This pleasant keystroke sound is probably due to the four layers of sound-absorbing material.
In addition, the “positioning plate (switch plate),” which is the support for the keyswitch, is fixed to the main body between rubber feet to provide flexibility, which also seems to have a significant impact on improving the keystroke feel.
Unique keycap shape makes typing easy
Foundation is also recommended for its ease of typing.
It has a “spherical design” with a depressed center, which makes typing feel as if your fingers are being sucked into it.
The rounded corners of the keytops also make typing more comfortable for “stroking” users who type without lifting their fingers much, as there is less drag when sliding their fingers to other keys.
Things to keep in mind before purchasing Lofree Dot Foudation
There are three things to keep in mind before purchasing Fondation
- The size of the unit is larger than expected
- Medieval look, may not be to everyone’s taste
- Be careful about volume when using in an office.
The size of the unit is larger than expected
The Dot Foundation has a larger body than you might expect, which can make it quite a presence on a small desk.
Because it is even wider vertically than a regular 75% keyboard, a desk with a narrow depth may not provide enough space.
While a typical 75% keyboard is about 13 cm in height, this model is slightly longer at 16 cm.
Neutral in looks, may not be to everyone’s taste
The pink-based, skeletal design is the most attractive feature of Foundation, but it may also give a somewhat neutral impression, depending on one’s point of view.
Therefore, due to the coloring, there is a possibility of different tastes.
Also, if you work for a rigid company like in Japan, it may be difficult to use the system in your office given your surroundings.
Be careful about volume when using in an office.
Foundation is certainly very pleasant to type on, but it is a little too loud.
Therefore, using it in an office where a large number of people are gathered to work may cause people to be concerned about their surroundings.
In addition, if you are using a headset that does not have a noise reduction function, the other party may be able to hear you typing if you are using a headset that does not have a noise reduction function if you are using a web meeting a lot.
It is necessary to carefully consider even where the product will be used before purchasing.
summary
This is a review of the Lofree Dot Foundation.
In recent years, Lofree has released a series of models that not only have a great feel, but also a great look.
We have reviewed FLOW and BLOCK in the past, but there is no doubt that the design and feel of the keys is distinct from the previous “older” models such as Dot and Touch.
A keyboard that feels good to type on and looks great not only has the potential to greatly improve work efficiency, but also has a very good chance of “looking good” when posting photos of desk tours and other activities.
Why not add some color to your desk with “Dot Foundation”?
