On April 22, 2024, NocFree announced that it is proceeding with obtaining the necessary certifications for the Japanese market for its split low-profile keyboard, the “NocFree &.”

In a direct inquiry by Greenkeys, NocFree explained that the certification process for the Japanese market is currently underway, with a schedule expected to be completed by the end of May.

Furthermore, they stated their policy is to ensure that all certifications are approved before shipping.

Additionally, regarding the JIS layout legends that were pointed out on X (formerly Twitter), NocFree acknowledged that the posted images contained errors and announced that they have already been corrected.

This follows up on a post by Greenkeys operator Kawamura, who noted that some of the legends in the original images were unfamiliar.

The official team has also shared the latest corrected images with Greenkeys.

The NocFree & is being developed as a split low-profile keyboard offering multiple layouts including ANSI, ISO, KR, and JIS. For Japanese keyboard fans, the availability of a Japanese layout was a major highlight.

On the other hand, for wireless products sold in Japan, the presence of technical conformity certification (Giteki) was a point of concern.

In fact, there are cases where overseas brands do not fully understand the requirements for Japanese technical certification.

This update indicates that NocFree is at least proceeding with the assumption that certification is required, addressing those concerns.

The announcement of the Japanese layout for the NocFree has garnered significant interest among keyboard enthusiasts in Japan.

At the time of writing, the post has received 222 likes and nearly 90 bookmarks, reflecting the high level of interest.

While concerns regarding certification and keycap legends have been resolved, some concerns regarding the price have also been voiced.

At the time of writing, the USD/JPY exchange rate is approximately 159 yen, making the price about 43,000 yen—a very high price bracket for the Japanese keyboard market.

In the global keyboard market, this price range is quite reasonable for these specifications.
However, in the Japanese market where the keyboard community is still developing, it requires a significant decision to commit to such a purchase.

Additionally, given the recent yen depreciation and the fact that many Japanese users have limited experience with international shipping, the barrier to entry for this product remains somewhat high.

Even so, there is no doubt that it is a highly desirable product.
