Keychron’s first “hybrid-style keyboard” is finally here.
On August 18, 2026, Keychron announced via their official X account the launch of a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the “Keychron V6 Ultra Hybrid 8K,” a keyboard that allows magnetic and mechanical switches to be used on the same board.
Early bird pricing starts at $149.
Shipping is scheduled to begin around November 2026.
At Greenkeys, we have previously covered the Nova Socket mechanism, the name change from “V6 Ultra HE” to “V6 Ultra Hybrid,” and the concept of placing magnetic switches only on the keys where they are needed.
With the start of this Kickstarter, details necessary for making a purchase decision—such as pricing, product configurations, standard switches, compatible switches, and layouts—have been revealed, so we are presenting them in this breaking news update.

New Information on Keychron V6 Ultra Hybrid
The following are the key details newly confirmed with this launch:
- Early bird pricing starts at $149
- Available in two versions: Standard and Silent
- Pre-built units come standard with magnetic switches
- Switch types are selected after the campaign ends
- Compatible magnetic switches are currently limited
- Compatible with general 5-pin mechanical switches
- Only ANSI English layout is available on Kickstarter
- ISO layouts will be available for pre-order later on the official Keychron site
- Shipping is scheduled to begin around November 2026
- Shipping costs and customs duties may apply separately for orders to Japan
Standard and Silent versions feature different pre-installed switches
The V6 Ultra Hybrid is offered in two versions: Standard and Silent.
The keyboard body and features are identical for both; the difference lies in the pre-installed magnetic switches.

For the Standard version, you can choose from the following:
- Keychron Ultra-Fast Lime Banana Magnetic Switch
- Keychron Ultra-Fast Lime Magnetic Switch
For the Silent version, you can choose silent magnetic switches:
- Keychron Ultra-Fast Lime Silent Banana Magnetic Switch
- Keychron Ultra-Fast Lime Silent Red Magnetic Switch
Switch types are not selected at the time of backing, but rather through a confirmation email sent approximately two weeks after the campaign ends.
Pre-built units come standard with magnetic switches
While the V6 Ultra Hybrid supports both magnetic and mechanical switches, pre-built units come standard with magnetic switches for both the Standard and Silent versions.
In other words, backing the $149 Standard version does not mean you receive both magnetic and mechanical switches.
If you wish to use mechanical switches in combination, you will need to provide them separately.
Additionally, the item added to the $157 and $161 Bundles is the Keychron Coiled Aviator Cable 8K.
Please note that this is not a set of mechanical switches.
Compatible Magnetic Switches Revealed
Compatibility ranges differ between magnetic and mechanical switches.
The compatible switches listed in the Kickstarter FAQ are as follows:
Compatible Magnetic Switches
- Keychron Ultra-Fast Lime Magnetic Switch Series
- Gateron Double-Rail Magnetic Nebula Switch V2
Compatible Mechanical Switches
- Keychron Apex Mechanical Switch
- Keychron Silk POM Mechanical Switch
- General 5-pin Mechanical Switches
Regarding mechanical switches, a wide range of general 5-pin compatible products can be used.
On the other hand, magnetic switches are limited to specific products at this time due to the relationship between magnetic flux and sensor calibration.
This does not mean “any magnetic switch will work,” so it is necessary to check compatibility when purchasing replacement switches.
Automatic Recognition of Different Switches
The V6 Ultra Hybrid automatically detects whether a compatible magnetic or mechanical switch is installed.
For example, you can configure the board by placing magnetic switches around the WASD keys for gaming while using mechanical switches for the rest of the keys used for typing.
There is no need to unify all keys to either magnetic or mechanical; they can be mixed on the same keyboard.
While Keychron had previously hinted at this, the Kickstarter FAQ has officially confirmed support for automatic recognition.
Automatic recognition is a very convenient feature.
Kickstarter Offers ANSI English Layout Only

The version available on Kickstarter is the 100% full-size ANSI English layout.
It features a standard full-size configuration with function keys, arrow keys, and a number pad, but no Japanese layout is available.
Furthermore, ISO layouts are not being handled through Kickstarter. Keychron plans to offer them for pre-order on their official website once the release date is finalized.
At this time, there are no announced plans for a Japanese layout release.
Shipping Scheduled to Begin November 2026
Keychron plans to start shipping the V6 Ultra Hybrid around November 2026.
While it depends on the destination and logistics, most backers should expect arrival between late November and early December 2026.
Approximately two weeks after the campaign ends, the Pledge Manager will be sent out, allowing you to select your shipping address and switch type.
Shipping and Taxes Not Included in Backing Price
The backing price does not include shipping costs, taxes, or customs duties based on the destination.
For regions outside the US and Canada, including Japan, taxes and customs duties may be charged separately upon delivery.
Since the actual total payment will be more than just $149, you should check the shipping costs to Japan when backing.
In the case of Japan, taxes are often paid based on a notice sent by the carrier handling the international shipping.
Previous Coverage on Greenkeys
Greenkeys has previously covered the V6 Ultra Hybrid from the following perspectives:
- What is Keychron’s new technology “Nova Socket”?
- The significance of a hybrid keyboard supporting both magnetic and mechanical switches
- The name change from “V6 Ultra HE” to “V6 Ultra Hybrid”
- Keychron’s proposal for using “magnetic switches only where necessary”
Therefore, this article does not repeat the details of the Nova Socket or the significance of the hybrid structure, but instead organizes the new purchase information confirmed by the Kickstarter launch.
Summary
That concludes the sales information for the V6 Ultra Hybrid.
A particularly important takeaway from this new information is that the standard pre-built configuration is “all-key magnetic.”
Our editorial team views this as a positioning where the base is primarily “magnetic-focused,” while providing “existing mechanical options” for those who want to experiment.
Rather than a “product that comes as a set of magnetic and mechanical switches,” it might be better to think of the V6 Ultra Hybrid as a platform that allows users to assemble the input method they need for each key.
Greenkeys has also touched upon the significance of hybrid-style keyboards in the following content.

Through this product, Keychron seems to be promoting the stance that work and gaming can be completed on a single keyboard, rather than needing to prepare two separate ones.
We will be watching closely to see how this product is received by the market.
