Resin is no longer the only material used for keycaps.
Typical examples include ceramics (pottery), metal, and wood.
When it comes to ceramic keycaps in particular, it seems to me that the number of brands and the variety of options have increased compared to a few years ago.
Leading Brands Selling Ceramic Keycaps
- Cerakey (alumina ceramic)
- TacType (Zirconia Ceramic)
- XVX (alumina ceramic)
Amid all this, the “Glaze Ceramic Keycaps” released by XVX offer even more variety—not only in terms of color and material, but also in terms of “printing.”
In this article, we’ll share a brief review of the “Glaze Ceramic Keycaps Retro,” which feature Old Mac-style legends.
When I actually tried using them, I was struck by the “stylishness of the ceramic keycaps”—which goes beyond just the material and the sound they make when typed.

My Impressions After Actually Using It
Here are my impressions after actually using it.
- Even though it’s ceramic, you can still be particular about the printing.
- PC Stem Designed for LED Light Transmission
- An affordable price range
- A long space bar can affect typing
- Only English keyboard layouts are supported.
Even though it’s ceramic, you can still be particular about the printing.

With XVX ceramic keycaps, you can customize not only the ceramic material but also the printing.
In many cases, ceramic keycaps typically feature top-surface printing in a standard font or side printing.
That is why I feel that, as things stand, it’s difficult to make keycaps stand out.
On the other hand, the XVX ceramic keycaps deserve high praise for the variety of print designs available, despite being made of ceramic.

PC Stem Designed for LED Light Transmission

The cross-shaped stem of the XVX ceramic keycaps is made of polycarbonate.
As a result, it boasts high light transmittance, including the stem.
This will likely be a selling point for users who prioritize LEDs.
An affordable price range

Ceramic keycaps tend to be slightly more expensive than standard keycaps.
When you buy the full set, the price can sometimes exceed 20,000 yen, which puts it in a price range that makes it difficult to purchase.
On the other hand, the XVX ceramic keycaps are priced very competitively compared to previous models, making them very affordable—which is a big draw.
A long space bar can affect typing
This applies not only to XVX ceramic keycaps but to all “heavy” keycaps in general: when using them on the spacebar, if you use a lightweight switch, the switch may not be able to handle the weight, causing the spacebar to “not spring back.”
An extra spring is included to prevent this, but you should be aware before purchasing that this can significantly change the feel of the spacebar, or that you may need to consider a different key switch just for the spacebar.

Only English keyboard layouts are supported.

The keycap sets featured in this article are compatible only with “English layouts” that use Cherry MX-compatible key switches.
Please note that keyboards with 40% custom layouts or Japanese layouts cannot be used due to discrepancies in the key labels and other issues.
Summary | Who Are XVX Ceramic Keycaps Best Suited For?

That concludes my brief review of the XVX ceramic keycaps.
The XVX Ceramic Keycaps are a great choice for anyone who wants to try keycaps made of a different material for the first time, or for those who are looking for a unique style in ceramic keycaps.
In addition to Retro, there are also the “XVX Palette Glitter Ceramic Cherry Profile 120-Key Full Keycap Set,” which features colorful printing; models with customizable side prints; and even multicolor models that appear different depending on the viewing angle.
