Keychron’s newly announced split 75% keyboard, the “Q11 Ultra 8K,” has generated significant interest among users in Japan.

Greenkeys published an article introducing the Q11 Ultra 8K, and within one day of publication, it received over 5,000 page views, with more than 400 clicks to the official Keychron page.

While this is just one example from Greenkeys, it serves as an indicator of the level of interest in split keyboards.

Additionally, social media impressions exceeded 50,000, confirming exceptionally high interest.

Let’s look at some of the responses in quoted comments.

  • “Keychron never disappoints. Yes, what I wanted from a Q11 successor was full wireless. …I’d love to try it.”
  • “Of course I’ll buy this, but I’d be happy if they released a split keyboard in the K Max series…”
  • “A split 75% fully wireless keyboard is too attractive.”
  • “Wow, this is really good”
  • “I want this!!”
  • “I want full wireless”
  • “It’s expensive because of the weak yen…”
  • “Wake me up when the JIS version comes out…”
  • “At this timing!? …Split might not be bad either…”

Our editorial team believes the Q11 Ultra 8K attracted attention not simply because it’s a new Keychron release.

The biggest change from the original Q11 is that the connection between the left and right units is now wireless.

Additionally, the use of a proprietary protocol has reduced concerns about connection latency, which we believe has contributed to its popularity.

Its 2.4GHz wireless implementation may also have helped reduce concerns about latency.

Traditional split keyboards have often been discussed in the context of custom keyboards or small-scale brands, presenting certain barriers to entry.

Keychron, on the other hand, has broad recognition as a mass-production brand.

The fact that Keychron has updated its full-metal split 75% keyboard as part of the Ultra generation, combining 2.4GHz wireless synchronization, 8K polling rate, ZMK, and Keychron Launcher support, suggests the possibility that split keyboards could reach a wider user base.

On social media, responses to the Q11 Ultra 8K included comments like “I want this,” “It’s an improvement over the original Q11,” and “Being able to use the left and right sides wirelessly is significant.”

Of course, there are still many points to confirm before purchasing, such as the fact that it’s only available in English layout, the price range, and whether it will be sold domestically.

In particular, our editorial team recognizes that many users in Japan, aside from some enthusiasts, tend to prefer Japanese layout keyboards, and we anticipate that in addition to the layout issue, the selling price will be a major obstacle to reaching a broader audience.

It is indeed remarkable that an aluminum-bodied keyboard with these specifications can be purchased for around $240.00 (approximately ¥38,000*), demonstrating Keychron’s exceptional value proposition.

On the other hand, In Japan, the average willingness to pay for keyboards is still relatively modest, and the segment of users willing to spend more than ¥30,000 may not be very large.

Nevertheless, based on the response this time, interest in split keyboards does not appear to be limited to keyboard enthusiasts alone.

The fact that both domestically available split keyboards like the Cornix LP and Jiffy75 LP, as well as mass-production brand split models like the Keychron Q11 Ultra 8K, are generating interest is an intriguing development for the future keyboard market.

Furthermore, we have recently noticed increased access to content about NocFree’s low-profile split 75% layout keyboard with Japanese layout, and through our media operations, we have increasingly felt that interest in “split keyboards” is growing.

Regarding the Q11 Ultra 8K, we will continue to monitor stock availability and whether it will be introduced domestically.
