On October 12, 2023, NuPhy updated its official X (formerly Twitter) to announce the release of the new Air60 v2, which became available for pre-order on October 17.

The deadline for preorders is November 16.

The NuPhy Air60 v2 is a 60% layout keyboard that eliminates function keys.

Usually, a 60% layout usually eliminates the directional keys, as in the HHKB, but this model is unusual in that it has directional keys. (I have a feeling it’s 65% to be exact.)

The elimination of the faction keys gives it a very compact appearance, and this model is more convenient than the Air75 if it is to be carried around.

QMK/VIA support allows flexible keymap changes

The most important evolution is the ability to change the keymap.

With support for QMK/VIA, not only simple keymap changes, but also “MODTAP,” which allows multiple functions to be added to a keyswitch, and macro functions that can record multiple operations are now available.

Personally, I think the most awkward part of the Air60v2 key layout is around the arrow key in the lower right corner.

In particular, the right shift, up arrow, and delete keys are aligned horizontally, causing a high rate of typing errors.

This could also be solved by changing the DEL key to another key.

Improved key feel with silicone foam

The most significant evolutionary point of the Air60v2 is still the improvement in key feel.

The previous model was released at a time when there was still little interest in sound-absorbing mechanisms, so silicone foam was not included at all.

In keeping with the recent trend of keyboards with silent processing in the low-profile area, led by Lofree Flow, PORON is mounted on the plate form and IXPE below it.

This will greatly improve the keystroke sound.

Tilt leg evolves to built-in

The evolution of the tilt-leg should not be overlooked.

In v1, it was a removable magnetic type, but in v2, it has evolved to a built-in tilt leg, while maintaining the mechanism that allows it to be placed on top of a laptop PC keyboard without interference.

It is wonderful to be able to achieve the noble style without a keyboard bridge.

Additionally, the size of the Air60 will not inhibit the TOUCH ID portion when placed on a MacBook.

Stable use with low latency

Air60v2 has improved the overall polling rate, not just during wireless connections.

The response speed is 5.1x faster for 2.4GHz wireless connections using a dongle, 3.1x faster for Bluetooth connections, and 6.2x faster for wired connections.
